Recent Survey Available. Replacement value $125,000. 1986 25' Farallon Whaleback. 1992 6BT-5.9M Cummins Marine Turbodiesel, 210 hp. The Diesel Repower was done by Tony Athens, Seaboard Marine, sbmar.com in Oxnard. Engine starts immediately, no smoke. The 210 hp rating of the Cummins B series engine is a very tough engine, it is only asking 210 hp max from 5.9 liters. Also does not have the aftercooler maintenance issues of the higher hp ratings. Very simple and easy to work on. Cruises between 14-18 knots, tops out at 21+ knots. 6 man Viking cannister self deploying liferaft. No trailer. |

Mechanical Equipment |
- Cummins 6BT-5.9M engine is one of the most bulletproof engines still produced, and recent blow by test shows that it still specs out as a new/rebuilt engine. Engine was installed by Tony Athens.
- Pyrometer and Boost Gauges installed and working.
- Floscan 9500 unit with flywheel magnetic sensor for digital tach, has mpg/gph function, fuel used since last reset, and total engine hours. Very useful for those long tuna trips, and for everyday use, to accurately know how much fuel has been used. Boat also has fuel tank level gauges, but these aren't as good as having the Floscan.
- Three Rule Bilge pumps, all with automatic/manual/off switching. Stock Farallons have backflow thru bilge hose. All 3 bilge discharge hoses have the best check valves, and/or riser loops installed.
- Also has High Bilge Water alarms, and Bilge Pump operation counters.
|
- Hydronic Heating in Cabin (uses engine coolant heat), keeps everyone warm, sometimes too warm, has plenty of BTU's.
- 3 Stage Fuel Filtration.
- Fuel Filter Vacuum Gauge. Great for knowing when it's time to change fuel filters.
- A really nice ZF "Faster" 4 blade Nibral Propeller, 17RH15, tuned to Class 1.
- The transmission is a ZF 63A (Hurth 630A), with 1.22 to 1 reduction.
|
Accomodations |
- Front V Berth, sleeps two. Very comfy down there, my crew gets a good rest on tuna trips, and even on short day trips, someone will be down there snoozing. Going thru the doorway, there is hardly any down there, and the door can be closed for privacy.
- Plumbed Marine Head for Overboard Discharge or to Holding Tank.
- L settee for passengers.
|
- Fishes 4 comfortably.
- Two All Weather Tempress Quick Disconnect seats on top of engine box in the cockpit.
|
Galley Equipment |
- Microwave, great to have hot food sometimes.
- Pantry
|
- Cutting Board
- Fresh Water Tank, 10 gallons.
|
Electronics & Navigational Gear |
- Furuno 1834C/NT 4 kW Navnet VX2 Color Radar/Chartplotter with Overlay option and AIS option.
- AIS Receiver, Large vessels show up as special marks on the Navnet screen, showing course, speed, bearing, distance, closest point of approach, ship name, mmsi number, etc. Greatly simplifies collision avoidance decision making.
- Icom VHF Radios
- Digital Selective Calling, one button distress signal.
|
- Dytek Water Temperature Gauge and sensor.
- Polyplanar stereo w/4 speakers (2 inside, 2 outside)
- Just added a Garmin 441 chartplotter, also with AIS.
- Ritchie Powerdamp compass (flat card style), with night illumination.
|
Electrical System |
- Mass GI Isolation Transformer professionally installed.
- Windshield Defroster x3 panels.
|
- Windshield wipers on all 3 front panels.
- One Group 27, and one 4D battery, both about a year old.
|
Deck & Hull Equipment |
- Viking Cannister 6 man Liferaft w/hydrostatic release. The best raft made.
- 30 inch wide Bennett Trim Tabs, hydraulically operated with 2 rams per tab. Bonded in to the transom zinc for corrosion protection.
- Prop shaft protected by Shaft Brush.
- Two 50 gal bait tanks. Water from thru hull, strainer, and Rule 3700 general purpose pump. Can control flow to both tanks individually, or turn off. Level of water in tank is also controllable. Water rotation direction can be adjusted to either CW or CCW.
- FRP Swimstep with stainless steel supports.
|
- Raw water washdown pump. Great for washing away all that blood/slime/scales when a fish hits the deck.
- Danforth anchor, chain, and line. Bitter end secured to boat.
- One ton fish hold. A large person can completely fit inside.
- Stainless Fish Cleaning Trough/Tray.
|
Additional Equipment |
- Seven Rod Holders inside Cabin
- Lots of Rod Holders outside, on back and top of house, and on the gunwale cap.
- Stainless Steel "Rod Riggers"
|
- Fiberglass Outriggers, with high quality release clips installed.
- Lots of storage places to put things.
- Finally, there is one more thing. There is a really neat item that comes with this boat, which I will only reveal to the new owner.
