This 44 Commercial Fisherman, custom built in 1980 in Oakland, California, is well designed and of quality craftsmanship. She holds up well in rough weather and on long range trips. The best Commercial Fisherman is an actively operating and well maintained boat. Other things that make up a great fishing boat include long range capability, crew accommodations, fish holds with ice, and tons of working deck space. WESTERN WARRIOR has them all! Accommodations: Overnight accommodations are provided for seven passengers in seven berths. Two cabin areas include lower cabin (accommodations for crew and galley) and captain’s bridge (helm and captain’s quarters). Both cabin areas have generous headroom, outside deck access doors, 12-volt light fixtures, 110-volt electrical outlets, and teak trim. The lower cabin has single bunks for six crewmembers. Layout includes starboard galley/dinette area, enclosed head, and port bunkroom. The galley/dinette area has full service galley, L-shaped dining table, and convertible settee (converts to two over-and-under bunks). Forward is passageway to the enclosed head. The passageway has room to store crew gear and other equipment. The enclosed head is equipped with marine toilet, vanity, stainless steel sink, hot/cold pressure water, storage cabinet, and privacy door. The port bunkroom is a narrow room with four single over-and-under style bunks and opening port for ventilation. Other lower cabin features include bright florescent lighting, vinyl covered bunk cushions, vinyl covered dinette cushions, linoleum sole/headliner, portside lockable companionway door to work deck, and starboard companionway to captain’s bridge. The captain’s bridge is one large room equipped with full instrumentation helm, captain’s seat, twelve windows (side windows are sliders), two lockable companionway doors to outside upper side decks, starboard companionway to lower cabin, starboard nav station, aft captain’s berth, and entertainment center. The entertainment center includes various audio/video/karaoke electronic devices. Other bridge features include fabric covered berth cushion, overhead fishing rod rack, window blinds, and under-berth stowage compartment. Galley Equipment: The galley is equipped with deep stainless steel sink, hot/cold pressure water, stainless steel swing faucet, Toshiba microwave, Magic Chef three-burner propane stove/oven, Norcold refrigerator/freezer (not working), Formica countertops, paper towel dispenser, two overhead cupboards, and under-sink storage cabinet. Electronic and Navigational Gear: The bridge helm is equipped with teak steering wheel, dual forward/reverse throttle sets, two new dash mounted Cummins gauge panels, and overhead mounted electronics. The gauge panels are equipped as follows: two oil, two temperature, two volt, alarm system, and two key-start ignitions. Electronic and navigational gear includes Garmin 215 GPS/plotter, Southern California map chip, Si-Tex CVS-210 1000-fathum fishfinder, JRC FF50 fishfinder, 408 MHz EPIRB, Si-Tex Koden 36-mile radar, JRC 1500 12-mile radar, Cetec Benmar Course Setter 21R autopilot, Danforth Constellation 4” compass, DMID-612 radio, Cubic ST-3B transceiver, Skymate VMS 100 satellite communicator, ICOM IC-745 transceiver/single-side-band radio, Ray Jefferson 312 PA system, two Regency Polaris VHF marine radios (each with direction finder), Icom IC-M45 VHF marine radio, two VHF marine radio speakers, and USCG standard running lights. The boat’s entertainment system, controlled from the captain’s bridge, includes Panasonic CD/DVD stereo, Yamaha digital karaoke machine, Denon amp, seven pilothouse speakers, two lower cabin speakers, Toshiba television with built-in VCR , and Emerson 7” flat panel television. Electrical/Gas/Plumbing: The vessel is equipped with both 12-volt DC and 110-volt AC electrical system. Other electrical features include three 8-D marine batteries, battery boxes, Exide Nautilus charger inverter, auxiliary inverter for television, smart charger charging system, 15 kW Isuzu diesel generator, shore power inlet, ship-to-shore power cord, two battery isolator switches, lower cabin accessory panel, bridge accessory panel, and new 12-volt DC wiring. The generator’s electrical output end was rebuilt in 2004, and it produces a good output. Propane fuel system is provided for galley stove/oven and includes 7-gallon propane tank installed outside of bridge aft. Water system includes hot/cold pressure water, two plastic freshwater tanks with total 250-gallon capacity, hot water heater, 25-gallon plastic holding tank, marine toilet overboard discharge system, three automatic and manual bilge pumps, shower sump pump, and two wash down pumps. Hull and Deck Gear: The hull, decks, cabin top, and bridge are built of molded fiberglass. Other structural features include Seaflex fiberglass panels, fiberglass framing, Seaflex deck beams bonded to 2” x 2” and 2” x 4” wood beams, Seaflex fiberglass stringers, Seaflex fiberglass bulkheads, tapered fiberglass keel, slight rake stem, Seaflex fiberglass flat transom, hard chine, and concrete post ballast in bilge space under galley sole. All deck areas have non-skid surfacing. Deck layout includes deck at bow, foredeck, wide walkaround lower side decks, large aft deck, and 360-degree walkaround decks outside of the captain’s bridge. Hull and deck gear includes two rubber rub rails at dock level, bronze ball valve thru hulls, stainless steel bow rail, two stainless steel bow eyes, large mast over bridge, smaller radar mast, stainless steel safety rail behind bridge deck, two halogen work deck lights, raised gunwales, dual pump washdown system, stainless steel bridge ladder starboard, portside companionway to bridge side deck, working deck storage cabinet, wash down decks, and twenty scuppers. Anchor gear includes 30-lb. Bruce anchor, 20-lb. Bruce anchor, sea anchor, galvanized chain, stainless steel cable, rode, hydraulic windlass, commercial chain spooler, and three commercial double T-bar tie downs. Safety equipment includes twenty PFD’s, three fire extinguishers, flare kit, first aid kit, docking line, fenders, four-passenger life raft, and three survival suits. The safety gear is USCG approved for 50-mile offshore vessel. Fishing and sports gear includes on-deck hydraulic pinch puller, mast mounted davit with hydraulic puller, three plumbed livewells, and new in 2002 Manitowoc Q model one-ton-per-day 220-volt ice machine. The boat completed last haulout for service and inspection in September 2005. Service included new bottom paint, new topside primer paint, and new topside Emron LP paint. Equipment/Engine Details: The boat comes equipped with 8’ Apex dinghy. Other dinghy features include oars. Engine Details: The power package includes two 2004 diesel 350 HP Cummins B-Series (family MIOTA) inboard engines with 2,000 hours. The boat cruises at 12 knots and reaches a maximum speed of 15-17 knots. Other engine features include two fiberglass fuel tanks with 1,000-gallon total capacity, new three-blade 28” x 28” bronze props, after cooling (freshwater cooling system), new stainless steel shafts, new custom built heavy duty stainless steel struts, fiberglass rudder, new ZF 2½:1 ratio transmission, new saltwater strainer, new intake valves, and new twin stainless steel/fiberglass wet exhaust system (cost $3,000 each). The two main engines, generator, and various other mechanical features are located in the engine compartment below the work deck. Engine compartment features include three fiberglass access hatches and port/starboard engine room companionway ladders. Remarks: WESTERN WARRIOR has been continually operated for both pleasure and commercial purposes along the Southern California coastline. Since day one, this boat has been pretty well maintained. The current owner/operator purchased the boat in 2002 and has been very serious with maintenance and upgrades. Major upgrades include new ice machine, new power package, electrical upgrades, and installation of an extravagant sound system (for entertainment purposes).
